Maronite Patriarch Béchara Raï urged politicians to sanctify their activities and direct their efforts towards serving humanity and promoting spiritual, cultural, and economic development. This call was made during his sermon at the patriarchal seat in Bkerké, Kesrouan.

"Politicians should consider their duty to God as accelerating the election of a president who would restore citizens' trust in him and in the state's institutions," the prelate emphasized in his Sunday homily. Lebanon has been without a president since the end of Michel Aoun's term in October 2022.

Cardinal Raï also prayed for peace in Gaza and southern Lebanon, stating, "No one wins during war," and "heroism consists of making peace." His comments come amidst ongoing daily clashes between Hezbollah and Israel since October 8, 2023.

The call from the Maronite Patriarch comes at a critical time for Lebanon, which has been experiencing significant political instability and economic challenges. The lack of a president has further exacerbated the crisis, leaving the nation in a state of uncertainty.

Patriarch Raï's message underscores the importance of political responsibility and the need for leaders to prioritize the well-being and development of the country.

His emphasis on spiritual and moral obligations reflects a deep concern for the current state of Lebanese politics and its impact on the population.
