The Israel Defense Forces' (IDF) 98th Division has successfully completed its month-long operation in the Gaza Strip, specifically targeting areas in Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah.
The operation, which involved both above-ground and subterranean maneuvers, resulted in the elimination of over 250 Hamas militants and the destruction of multiple terrorist infrastructures.
During the operation, IDF forces, including the Engineering Corps, the 7th Brigade soldiers, and the Paratrooper Division, discovered and destroyed six tunnels spanning approximately six kilometers underground. These tunnels, which are a key part of Hamas' military strategy, were found to contain living quarters for militants, weapon caches, and operational rooms. In some instances, clashes within these tunnels led to the neutralization of armed militants.
The recent military actions in Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah are part of Israel’s broader campaign against Hamas, the militant group that controls Gaza.
Hamas, designated as a terrorist organization by Israel, the United States, the European Union, and several other countries, has been using a network of tunnels to facilitate the movement of fighters, weapons, and supplies, and to carry out surprise attacks against Israeli forces.

Following Saudi Arabia, Turkey has strongly condemned the visit of Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem on Wednesday.
A Gaza family's open admission this week that they killed an officer from the Hamas-run police force after they said a relative was shot dead has added to signs of popular dissent against the militant group after 18 months of war with Israel.
