Iranian school shut down in Kuwait

Kuwaiti authorities have ordered the closure of an Iranian school, a source at the Ministry of Education told AFP Thursday, as the country has repeatedly come under Iranian attack during the war in the Middle East.

"The Minister of Education has decided to revoke the operating license of the private Iranian school and close it," according to the text of the decision seen by AFP. New enrollments for the coming school year have been suspended, and the ministry has called on parents to register their children at other schools, the document states.

The source did not specify the reasons behind the closure of the country's only Iranian school.

Similar measures were taken in the United Arab Emirates early in the conflict, as Iran carried out strikes against the country. Gulf states allied with Washington have borne the brunt of Iranian attacks throughout the war, with Kuwait and Bahrain particularly hard hit in recent weeks. Repeated strikes on Kuwaiti power plants and desalination facilities prompted authorities to urge residents to ration electricity consumption last month.

In March, at the height of the war, the UAE ordered the closure of a hospital linked to the Iranian state in Dubai. At least four Iranian schools were also shut down, according to employees and members of the Iranian community.
