Jordanian FM Ayman Safadi held a phone conversation on Monday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, addressing key regional and international issues.

The discussion centered on the ongoing situation in Syria, efforts to halt Israeli aggression in Gaza, and the worsening humanitarian crisis caused by the conflict.

Safadi reaffirmed Jordan’s commitment to aiding the Syrian people in their efforts to rebuild the country through an inclusive, Syrian-led political process.

This process aims to establish a new governance system that upholds the rights of all Syrians while preserving Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and security. The two ministers emphasized the importance of strengthening Jordanian-Russian relations and exploring opportunities for deeper cooperation across various domains.

Safadi expressed grave concern over the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, warning of its catastrophic humanitarian consequences.

He reiterated Jordan’s call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, stressing the urgent need to open all crossings to allow sufficient humanitarian aid to reach the region. Safadi also highlighted the escalating risks to regional stability posed by the continued violence.

As a nation where over 60% of the population is of Palestinian descent, Jordan must carefully balance domestic pressures with its diplomatic strategy. The country remains a steadfast advocate for Palestinian rights while navigating complex relationships with key international players.

Given its geographical proximity to both Syria and Israel, Jordan holds a critical position in fostering dialogue and promoting stability in the Middle East.

Safadi’s engagement with Lavrov underscores Jordan’s proactive approach to addressing regional challenges through diplomacy and cooperation.
