Bilateral and expanded discussions took place on Wednesday in Amman between King Abdullah II of Jordan and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, with Crown Prince Al Hussein also in attendance.

The talks focused on strengthening relations between the two countries and addressing pressing regional developments.

Germany and Jordan have maintained close diplomatic ties for decades, with Germany being one of Jordan’s key European partners in trade, development, and security cooperation.

The two nations have engaged in extensive economic collaborations, humanitarian assistance efforts, and security initiatives, particularly in response to regional crises in the Middle East.

During the meeting, King Abdullah II and President Steinmeier reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation across various sectors.

As one of Jordan’s largest donors, Germany has provided significant financial aid to support Jordan’s economic stability and refugee crisis management. Jordan hosts over 1.3 million Syrian refugees, placing immense pressure on its economy and infrastructure.

Germany has contributed hundreds of millions of euros in humanitarian and development assistance to help Jordan manage this burden.

Additionally, Germany has been a strong supporter of Jordan’s water and energy projects, including investments in renewable energy and water desalination initiatives to address the country’s growing resource challenges.

The leaders also discussed critical regional issues, including the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the ongoing situation in Syria, and broader Middle East security challenges. King Abdullah emphasized the importance of Germany’s role in supporting peace efforts, particularly in advocating for a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine.

Both leaders expressed concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza and the West Bank, stressing the need for diplomatic solutions to prevent further escalation.

Amman and Berlin have also developed a strong defense partnership, focusing on counterterrorism efforts and military collaboration. Germany has provided military assistance and training to Jordanian forces to enhance their capabilities in combating terrorism and border security threats.
