Lebanese President Joseph Aoun offered his condolences to Qatar's Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, at Lusail Palace on Tuesday, following the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Aoun said the Lebanese people would not forget the support the late father emir had extended to Lebanon and its people.
Lebanon's First Lady, Naïma Aoun, presented her condolences separately to the former emir's widow, Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Al Misned, at Al Wajba Palace in Doha.
Sheikh Hamad, who ruled Qatar from 1995 until his voluntary abdication in favor of his son in 2013, died Sunday at the age of 74. He is widely regarded as the architect of modern Qatar, having overseen the country's transformation into one of the world's wealthiest nations and its largest exporter of liquefied natural gas.
His death has drawn condolences from leaders across the Arab world and beyond, including Egypt, the UAE, Iraq, Turkey and several European heads of state, with Qatar observing several days of official mourning. He was buried Sunday evening after funeral prayers at Doha's Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque, followed by burial at Lusail Cemetery.
