The Portuguese Parliament approved Friday a resolution designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization and instructed the government to present the issue to the European Union, as Portugal lacks its own terrorism list.

The proposal was introduced by the right-wing Liberal Initiative party, but it received widespread support, with the exception of the communists who opposed it and the far-left Bloc of the Left party, which abstained.

Among the supporters of the resolution were also left-wing parties that have expressed opposition to Israel.
