US President Donald Trump said on Friday that the United States would intervene if Iranian authorities violently crack down on peaceful protesters.

Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated that if Iran were to “shoot and violently kill peaceful demonstrators, as it has done in the past, the United States would come to their aid.”

“We are ready, armed, and prepared to intervene,” he added, as clashes between protesters and security forces reportedly left six people dead on Thursday. These were the first fatalities since demonstrations erupted over rising living costs and worsening economic conditions.

According to the Tasnim news agency, around 30 people accused of “disturbing public order” were arrested in Tehran.

The protest movement began on Sunday in the capital, where shopkeepers closed their businesses to denounce hyperinflation and economic hardship. It later spread to universities and several other cities across the country, with demonstrations continuing to gain momentum.

Iranian authorities strongly rejected Trump’s comments. Ali Larijani, a senior adviser to the Supreme Leader, warned that any US interference would risk destabilizing the Middle East.

“Trump should know that any American involvement in Iran’s internal affairs would destabilize the entire region and harm US interests,” Larijani said in a message posted on X. He also cautioned the former president to “take care of his soldiers.”

As protests continue to expand nationwide, tensions remain high, with international attention increasingly focused on how Iranian authorities will respond to the growing unrest.
