A Tunisian court on Friday sentenced Ahmed Souab, one of the fiercest critics of President Kais Saied, to five years in prison, his lawyer told Reuters.

Souab, a former administrative judge and a lawyer, was detained since last April over remarks in which he criticised the state of the judiciary. Authorities said his comments amounted to a threat against the judiciary.
