Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan spoke by phone Thursday with his Venezuelan counterpart Yvan Gil to discuss the earthquakes that have struck Venezuela and the country's urgent need for humanitarian assistance, a Turkish foreign ministry source confirmed.

During the call, Fidan expressed Turkey's solidarity with the Venezuelan people and reaffirmed Ankara's commitment to helping the disaster-stricken country. The Turkish foreign minister pledged that Turkey would continue to provide help and support to Venezuela in the aftermath of the earthquakes.

The call underscores Turkey's growing diplomatic engagement in Latin America and its consistent practice of reaching out to countries affected by natural disasters — a form of soft power diplomacy that Ankara has deployed with increasing frequency in recent years across Africa, Asia and beyond.

No details were provided on the specific nature or scale of the assistance Turkey intends to offer.
