Israel has announced its decision to open an embassy in Zambia, marking a significant step in bolstering its diplomatic presence in Africa.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar after a conversation with his Zambian counterpart, Mulambo Haimbe.
"I had a warm conversation with Zambian Minister of Foreign Affairs. I informed my counterpart of my decision to open an Israeli embassy in Zambia. Zambia is a friend of Israel, and this is an important step in strengthening our bilateral relations," Saar stated.
The move aligns with Israel’s strategic focus on Africa, which has been identified as a priority for 2025 by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. By opening an embassy in Lusaka, Israel aims to deepen its cooperation with African nations across various sectors, including agriculture, technology, health, and security.
Zambia, a key player in southern Africa, has maintained friendly relations with Israel over the years. The establishment of an embassy is expected to enhance collaboration and create new opportunities for both nations.
This development is part of Israel’s broader strategy to strengthen its ties with the African continent, where it seeks to expand its influence and partnerships. Over recent years, Israel has focused on improving its diplomatic and economic relations with African countries, recognizing the continent’s growing global significance.
Jerusalem has increasingly emphasized its commitment to supporting Africa through initiatives in sustainable development, innovation, and security cooperation.
