Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant assured his American counterpart, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, that Israel would continue to take measures to protect UN peacekeepers deployed in southern Lebanon, according to a statement from the Israeli Ministry of Defense published on Sunday.

During their conversation, Gallant emphasized that despite the "operational challenge" posed by Hezbollah's presence near UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) positions, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) would persist in taking steps to avoid harm to UNIFIL troops.

The Israeli Defense Ministry reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of the peacekeeping forces, even as tensions remain high with Hezbollah operating in close proximity to UN positions. Gallant's reassurances come at a time of heightened military activity in the region, with both Hezbollah and Israel engaging in periodic clashes along the Lebanese border.

Israel's Efforts to Protect UNIFIL Troops

The IDF's efforts to safeguard UN peacekeepers reflect Israel's ongoing cooperation with international forces amid complex security dynamics in southern Lebanon. The presence of Hezbollah fighters in the region has complicated operations, but Israel remains committed to preventing any inadvertent harm to UN personnel.
