Morocco's commitment to fostering development and stability in Africa was underscored by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, during his speech at the 37th African Union Summit held in Addis Ababa.
Mr. Bourita emphasized that Morocco's dedication to African development aligns with the Strategic Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
This vision, articulated by the King during His speech to the African Union in January 2017, emphasizes the importance of nurturing a new Africa capable of transforming its challenges into opportunities for progress and stability.
In line with this vision, Morocco has consistently sought to contribute to the implementation of Agenda 2063, the African Union's development blueprint for the continent. Mr. Bourita highlighted Morocco's active participation in discussions related to the evaluation and strategic orientation of Agenda 2063's implementation plans.
One key aspect of Morocco's commitment is the proposal to create a Development Fund akin to the Peace Fund, aimed at providing essential financial support for Agenda 2063's implementation. This proposal reflects Morocco's belief in the importance of mobilizing resources effectively to achieve Africa's development goals.
The Marrakech Declaration, issued during a high-level African ministerial meeting on development financing, further underscores Morocco's dedication to enhancing Africa's emergence. The declaration laid the groundwork for a working group to facilitate the exchange of best practices in development financing among African countries.
Mr. Bourita emphasized the crucial role of Regional Economic Communities (RECs) in the development process, stressing the need for operational synergies with the African Union and AUDA-NEPAD. Additionally, Morocco advocates for strengthening continental structures dedicated to African youth, recognizing their pivotal role in Africa's future.
Regular monitoring mechanisms are essential for tracking progress and addressing challenges in a timely manner. Morocco supports President Alassane Ouattara's proposals to deepen African leaders' commitment to Agenda 2063 through initiatives like the proposed Extraordinary Summit in Abidjan.
In conclusion, Morocco reaffirms its unwavering support for the realization of Agenda 2063 and expresses gratitude to President Alassane Ouattara for his leadership in advancing the continent's development agenda.
