Kuwait has officially announced plans to enhance its sports infrastructure as part of its bid to host the 2031 AFC Asian Cup.
Acting Director-General of the Public Authority for Sports, Bashar Abdullah, confirmed the development, emphasizing Kuwait’s commitment to delivering a world-class tournament.
Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Abdullah revealed that several new stadiums and training facilities are in the pipeline.
The Kuwait Football Association is spearheading the effort, planning to construct 6 to 7 new training pitches in addition to the stadiums. These upgrades aim to meet the high standards required for hosting international football tournaments.
Preparations are already underway, building on the momentum of Kuwait's recent success in hosting the Arabian Gulf Cup, which earned widespread praise for its well-prepared stadiums and efficient organization.
Abdullah highlighted the importance of cooperation with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in advancing Kuwait's bid.
He stated that Kuwait aims to strengthen regional ties through more agreements, which will foster collaboration in various sports fields. This aligns with a broader strategy to leverage the tournament as a platform for future international hosting opportunities.
Hosting the AFC Asian Cup in 2031 is seen as a gateway to further global recognition for Kuwait as a premier destination for sports events.
Abdullah stressed that the tournament could open doors for other international competitions, reinforcing Kuwait's position in the global sports community.
