Sagiv Yehezkel, who was arrested in Turkey, will return to Israel later Monday, according to the Israeli Foreign Affairs Ministry.
"After political and consular activity by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other factors, soccer player Sagiv Jehezkel was released from detention and will return home to Israel later today," the ministry said in a statement.
Jehezkel was arrested following a tribute to the Israeli hostages to mark the 100th day since their abduction during the Hamas massacre, which he presented during his team's game.
"Turkey has become a dark dictatorship, which works against humanitarian values and the values of sports," Foreign Minister Israel Katz said.
“Anyone who arrests a soccer player over an act of identification with 136 hostages who have been held for over 100 days in the hands of a murderous terror organization represents a culture of murder and hatred.”
